Caring for Your Eyes and Your Lenses

Even if contact lenses cost significantly less than when they first came out years ago you still need to take good care of them so that they don’t tear or break easily and also to protect your eyes from any irritation. Here is how to properly care for your lenses so that you can also protect your eyes.

The first thing you should remember is to never ever handle your contact lenses with dirty hands. Wash your hands with a mild soap and warm water before you put your lenses on and before you take them off. Dry your hands with a clean cloth. Do not use paper towels that can leave micro fibers on your hands.

Always keep your lenses clean and use the appropriate solution that was prescribed to you. The sterile solution should keep your lenses clear and will give you a better vision. It will also keep harmful germs and irritants from proliferating on the lenses. Use the case that comes with the lenses to clean them. Although you can also use warm tap water to clean your lenses when you forget to bring the solution, some places may have microorganisms in the water system that are unhealthy for your eyes.

Use the prescribed eye drops to prevent your eyes from getting too dry. This is important for keeping your eyes healthy and comfortable. If the lenses get too dry and stick to your eyes, use the eye drops to moisturize your eyes before taking them off.

Your contact lenses may also stick to the storage case so make sure you shake the case a little before you open it and take the lenses out. Never pull contact lenses out of the case. Just slide them out carefully onto your palm before putting the lens on your finger to wear them. Visit your doctor if any eye irritation happens.
